Common Air Conditioning Faults!

Common Air Conditioning Faults!

We know how it goes – the hottest time of the year when you need your air conditioning the most and let’s be honest, most likely out of hours too and you find yourself with an air conditioning fault.

Cue PANIC!

Our friendly team of professional air conditioning service technicians have put together some handy troubleshooting tips for those times you’re caught short with an air conditioning fault:

Loss of Power

– If you find your air conditioning unit has no power at all, our first suggestion is that you check to see if the circuit breaker has been tripped on the electrical switchboard. If this is the case, reset the breaker. If you find it trips again, you will need to arrange for a professional inspection of the unit – “get in touch”. There are a number of reasons why your air conditioning unit may be tripping the breaker (including but not limited to, loose wiring and/or faulty parts causing the systems to overwork).
– If the circuit breaker is fine, locate your isolator (usually adjacent to the outdoor unit) and turn this off for 1-2 minutes. Restart and check if power has been restored.
– Another common cause for loss of power is a fault with the Power Control Boards – this is commonly caused by small vermin and gecko’s crawling onto the boards, subsequently causing them to short circuit. An inspection from a qualified air conditioning technician will determine which board may have been damaged and if it requires replacement.

Gas Leak/Shortage

Is your system running but blowing warm air? It may be the case that your system has a shortage of gas caused by a leak… unfortunately even a pin prick leak can over time leave your system lacking enough refrigerant to cool effectively. Like any gas leak, this will need to be attended to by a trained Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic who holds a refrigerant handling licence, they will need to locate the leak, fix, test and then recharge the system accordingly.

User Error

Save yourself the cost of a call out fee by first checking your air conditioning controls and ensuring you have the system operating in the right settings for your desired temperature.
-Is your system in heating or cooling mode? Sun or snowflake?
-Is your fan speed on automatic?
-Is there a timer set?
-Check your manufacturer’s manual or website for specific controller symbols and settings.

Nearly all of the most common causes of air conditioning breakdowns and faults can be prevented with regular maintenance – don’t wait for your system to fail.. get on the back foot and your ensure you’re prepping your air conditioning unit ahead of the summer.
